Out of respect for the privacy of the children and families we serve, children who may be eligible to receive a wish can be referred by one of three sources:
- Medical professionals treating the child (doctor, nurse, social worker or child-life specialist)
- The child's parent(s) or legal guardian(s)
- The potential wish child
If you know of a child who may qualify for our services, ask the parents if they know about Make-A-Wish.
Matthew, a 16 year-old junior at Maui High School, is confined to a motorized wheelchair, but Duchenne's muscular dystrophy doesn't slow him down. This MD Association Youth Ambassador for the State of Hawaii already has an impressive record as a scorekeeper, public address announcer and statistician for the Maui High basketball team. Sports are his passion and his dream to attend a L.A. Lakers game and meet NBA MVP, Shaquille O'Neal, came true when Make-A-Wish, Hawaii, sent he and his family to Los Angeles to meet the big man!
